Roman Rabenseifer, an architecture professor at Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, Slovakia took a study over winter garden design. The winter gardens were studied and designed for use in multistory buildings in Bratislava, Slovakia. The goals of this design were to provide a space to be enjoyed by owners year around. After a week long study of constant recording of air temperature, the results showed that a winter garden would cause considerable low temperatures, causing water condensation, that would cause surface damage. The idea of stacking these winter garden on top of each other, like would be done with a multi-story building, would help to maintain a more consistent temperature. The interior gardens, or the loggias, would be located on the exterior of the building, also providing a noise buffer from the streets. The strengths of this design include meeting the needs of individuals who desire a year arround garden and extention of living space, and the noise buffer it would create. The weakness is that these loggias are not designed properly for its use. Without co-ordination with neighbors to control internal surface temperatures too much condensation occurs for sustainablilty. If left the way they are the convertion of the loggias is a failure, but if designed properly these exterior spaces could be a success.
