The Area
The street adjacent to the Waterfront Park site was frequented with traffic.
There is one hour parking on the south side of the street.
To the west and east of the site was a commercial buildings
Directly north of the building was the Rose Flour Building which is a valuable building to the community.
The sidewalk is poorly maintained and in need of repair
Fire hydrants are along the east and west of the park on the sidewalk.
A small grove of trees defines the border of the park along the east.
There is a pedestrian path that runs along the shoreline. The path begins along the southwest border of the park and is lined with trees.
The SW view to downtown is a valuable view that should be kept.
Powerlines line the sidewalk.

The Site
The area was open and exposed, but with the sense of being enclosed and safe.
During the time we were at the site, there was not a single occupant of the site.
The soil along the waterfront was a clay based soil and was very muddy.
The river floods for about three weeks during the early summer.
Extensive erosion was evident along the bank.
The site was covered in tall grasses about waist height and thistles bushes.
Throughout the park was lined with cowpaths.
There was a significant amount of sunlight in the park because there weren't any tall buildings obstructing the light from the south.
Slow current in the river
River shore was littered with trash carried by the current.
No sign of animal life in the area.
Concrete blocks line the entrance to the park, along with wooden posts.
Across the river, to the south is a park with baseball fields that block the view with trees.
Vegetation
Thistles
Waist high grasses
Siberian Elm - along the northeast side of the park on the second of the two groves.
Box Elder - on the east side of the park.
Silverberry - east side of park, on first grove
Virginia Creeper (Vine) - on northeast within the first grove.
