In reaction to the article; “In praise of modernist civic space in Canadian cities” by Derek Drummond I propose to change the way people interact with the site and with each other around the ice-skating rink (Winter) or reflection pond (Summer). I initially decided that the site did not have much to offer younger children or families. Which apparently are regular users of the site, according to photo’s and documentation.
Therefore I have proposed a sort-of river race that weaves in between a permanent path with bridges and interactive activities. In the winter when this freezes over it can be used as an extension to the ice-rink allowing people to skate in and around trees and participate in the surroundings with each other in a different way to during summer. I feel that this new programming allows for interaction to occur within the site between different groups of people.
