Peace Plaza will be located on First St. by the Mayo Cliinic, Rochester, MN.
The proposed site is designed by Aggy Colby and Associates of Rochester, MN.
The site will be a centralized gathering place downtown. The space will be used by the public, Mayo Clinic employees and patients, Kahler Hotel guests, and U of M students.
The proposed site has a skating rink, fire pit, water feature, a mural, and a heated seating area.
Strengths:
• Central gathering place for Rochester and local residents
• Surrounded by the University of Minnesota Downtown Campus, Mayo Clinic, Wells Fargo Bank, Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Kahler and Marriott Hotels
• Skating Rank, Heating Houses, and a Large Fire Pit promote activity during the long Winter months
• Addition down 1st Street SW strengthens the Plaza’s ability to attract people: Mayo Clinic Employees or Patients, College Students, Hotel Residents
Weaknesses:
• Experiments will be conducted on how each proposed space will be used for its effectiveness.
Successes & Failures:
• Peace Plaza, which is a portion of the new 1st Street Promenade, is being remodeled and is a final proposal. No documentation has occurred, since it is being completed in Spring 2009
