A. ???
2. Who can I use the woodshop?
A. NDSU students currently enrolled in the 2nd through 5th year programs of the Department of Architecture and Landscape Architecture may utilize the facility. Students at the first year level are not eligible. The reason for this is first year students do not pay program fees. 3. When can I use the woodshop?
A. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Shop staff take a break between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM. One must be supervised by the staff to use the woodshop.
4. Are there any architecture organizations I can join?
A. Yes. The most prominent one is the American Institute of Architecture Students or AIAS. There is also the architecture honors society Tau Sigma Delta. Lastly, Sigma Phi Delta is an Architecture and Engineering Fraternity.
5. What is my mentor used for, and how can I contact him/her?
A. A mentor is used for first year students as a resource for any questions one might have about the arcitecture program. A first year student will be assigned a third or fourth year architecure student to serve as a mentor through one of their freshman classes. The best way to contact a mentor is probably through the NDSU email system.
6. Where can I go to print my work?
A. The NDSU Downtown Campus building has a computer lab on the fourth floor that is accessible to second through fifth year students. There is also a computer lab run by ITS on the fourth floor with printing capabilities. On campus there are computer labs with printing capabilitys at the IACC and the NDSU Library. In addition, a number of dorms have printing stations, although these only print in black and white. For other printing options, one can visit Mathison's Express Press Graphics, or Kinko's Fedex, both of which are experienced with printing student's projects.
7. I need to take digital photos, but don’t have a camera. What can I do?
A. The NDSU architecture department has digital cameras that students can use as long as they sign them out. The NDSU bookstore also has cameras that can be rented, but they are not free.
8. Are there any classes I should be taking in High School to prepare for this major?
A. The NDSU architecture program does not have any pre-requisite classes. However, the best courses to study in high school are those that would be recommended for any demanding college program-a sound mixture of courses in sciences, humanities and social sciences. Physics, trigonometry, art, freehand drawing and literature are recommended. Courses in mechanical drawing and architectural drawing are not necessary and, in fact, may be less useful than general academic or fine arts subjects.
