Electronic Databases
From CollabLandWiki
Electronic Databases are a good way to reach a wide variety of articles from many different sources. Some databases are more appropriate for searching certain topics than others. Many databases are subscribed to by the NDSU libraries, so one will not be able to access a database without an NDSU internet connection. A list of NDSU databases can be found here, while a handy quiz that helps student familiarize themselves with using the databases can be found here.

Ebsco
Ebsco is a collection of databases covering a large variety of topics. Prominent Databases include Academic Search Premier, the Avery Index, the Business Source Premier, and others. The Avery Index is a collection of articles from architectural journals, so it would be a good place to start, or one can select all of the databases to ensure nothing is missed.

Scopus
The Scopus databas is mostly dedicated the Life Sciences, but architectural articles do turn up in searches. Full Text is not available on the site, but it does sometimes link to the original site it was published on, where you may or may not find a full text article. Where it really shines is that for each article it lists the references for each article, so you have alternate sources of information. It will also tell you whether the journal the article is from is in the NDSU E-Journals list. IT is possible to find a full text version there instead.

The Architectural Index
The Architectural Index is not a library service and is not free, but comes highly recommended by Professor Cindy Urness. The Architectural Index allows one to locate the magazine, issue and page number of articles in major architectural magazines so that one can find the article in the library's collection or other sources. A recommended tool for when Thesis projects are due.
